Launch of the Kuku Yalanji First Readers i-Book Project

We were pleased to officially launch the final Kuku Yalanji readers ‘Jina-Tracks’ & ‘Wanjabu -Where’ at the Open Day with Mayor Julia Leu speaking to the guests about the importance of everyone learning language and the value of this project, funded by the Douglas Shire Council’s Community Support Programme.

The Kuku Yalanji First Readers i-Book Project retrieves, maintains, preserves and protects Indigenous language by ensuring young children have access to culturally appropriate material.  This programme  has also had an influence on families, schools and community ensuring Indigenous heritage is embedded into a childs learning is an important first step.

Special mention to Margaret Rocky, Clare Ogilvie, Fiona Creek, Alison Creek, Doreen Creek, Horace Rocky, Janine Paterson, Joan Fordham and the Kuku Yalanji Language Advisory Group for the language and illustrations.
