On the 8th August we held the official opening of our newest facility- The Activity Hub. We are thankful for local Kuku Yalanji Elder Lorna Shuan performing the Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony and to Mayor Julia Leu attending to officially open the facility and speak to the audience about the purpose of the Activity Hub.
The Activity Hub was built through a grant from the Department of Housing and Homelessness-Dignity First Initiative. The Activity Hub is a safe space for people to come make a cuppa, use the kitchen, do some washing, have a shower and access the support services available at the Community Centre.
Guests enjoyed a variety of homemade refreshments for morning tea prepared by our team of Community Lunch volunteers, who went above and beyond with their efforts. Entertainment was provided by Grant Brendecke on his guitar and vocals, along with the beautiful group of local Belly Dancing Ladies.
A big thank you to all our volunteers, staff, service providers, clients and community members who helped make the morning such a success.
