About the Kuku Yalanji Early Readers
Created by the Muruku Art Group, a community development initiative of Mossman Support Services, this set of early readers was developed to preserve and celebrate the Kuku Yalanji language.
The project brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members and has been supported by Kuku Yalanji Elders, language experts, and local artists.
Originally launched for NAIDOC Week 2017, the books have been revised and expanded thanks to ongoing support and funding. They are used in schools like Mossman State Primary and include English translations and audio recordings by Elder Clare Ogilvie.
The series of 6 books is a valuable resource for young learners and the wider community to engage with Yalanji language and culture.
