Youth Workers

VARIOUS CASUAL POSITIONS WITH AVAILABILITY REQUIRED UP TO 8PM WEEKDAYS

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Youth Worker plays a key role in delivering inclusive and engaging programs for young people in the Douglas Shire. Working collaboratively with the Youth Development Coordinator, this role supports the daily operations of the Mossman Youth Service and fosters a safe, welcoming, and empowering environment for youth.

The Youth Worker is expected to actively contribute to program planning and delivery, build respectful relationships with young people, and promote positive youth engagement in the community. While teamwork is essential, the role also requires the ability to work independently when needed, demonstrating initiative and sound judgement.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Experience engaging with young people in a community or youth-focused setting

  • Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships

  • Understanding of youth issues in rural or remote communities

  • Cultural awareness, including experience working with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and CALD youth

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Confident with practical tasks (e.g. program setup, cleaning, basic meal prep)

  • Current First Aid, Blue Card, and Driver Licence

DESIRABLE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (e.g. Certificate IV in Youth Work or related field)

  • Experience working with families, schools, or service providers

  • Willingness to continue learning and professional development

Lifestyle Support Worker

POSITION SUMMARY:

Using a person-centred, client focussed support approach, the Lifestyle Support Worker will work as part of a team (which may include families) to provide support to service users with diverse needs to participate in activities as prescribed by the service user’s personal plan/s and or as directed by the Lifestyle Support Coordinators.

 Lifestyle Support Workers provide consistent and appropriate support to service users in areas including physical, emotional, behavioural, social support, personal care and lifestyle planning as agreed and detailed on each individual service agreement and personal support plan and provide opportunities for choice, self-advocacy and social inclusion. Lifestyle Support Workers will ensure the maintenance of each individuals rights, support appropriate outcomes for all individuals and be committed to best practice and quality service delivery

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Current Senior First Aid and CPR

  • Blue Card & NDIS Worker Screening Clearance

  • Open C Class Drivers’ License

  • Minimum standard certification for disability support work or currently undertaking

  • Registered and Insured vehicle for transport

  • Willing to complete additional training through our online training platform, based on skill level prior to commencement
